Things I'm Learning...

It’s 2.17 am in the morning, and jet lag has me good. Where’s an AI dog when you need it? One that can make you cups of tea?

I was wondering if anyone else is in a new cycle of life? Like you can feel a change in your psyche? Maybe it’s being on annual leave for a month, and my nervous system has reset.

Since my birthday, I have felt a huge shift, and I’m happy to shake off the Sonya that survived the last 8 months. I’m way more at peace, yet my allowed access to people and belief systems has never been stronger.

Peace is the umpire of your soul.

As we get older, we need to fight against having a fixed mindset. Question our core belief systems we weren’t even aware of. That is what keeps you young and vibrant: a good mindset.

Here are things I’m learning and re-learning lately:

01. PUT YOUR LEGS UP AGAINST A WALL!

Omg, hear me out. Do you have burning feet, sore legs and puffy ankles? TRY IT! You can even use a pillow under your hips.

02. MOBILITY AND STRENGTH ARE YOUR BEST FRIENDS

I have started a YouTube collection of people teaching yoga, arm workouts, stretches, full-body kettlebell workouts, etc. I will share who I found. Please let me know if you have any good recommendations. My hips and posture are thanking me.

03. DO THINGS THAT REQUIRE YOU TO BE BRAVE

I can fly across the world by myself. How good is it to do something that requires you to be brave? That takes you out of your comfort zone.

04. ROMANCE YOUR OWN LIFE

For those who live alone, create a beautiful ritual of buying the best produce and cooking for yourself - the best date of your life. Eat from a beautiful plate, light a candle, put on your music. How I treat myself will reflect back to me.

Here’s My Greek-Style Tomato, Potato & Bean Stew (Fasolakia) Recipe:

Sauté onion and garlic in olive oil.

Add tomato paste, tinned tomatoes, chopped potatoes, beans and lemon zest. Add broth or water ¾ of the way up and simmer for around 50 minutes.

Finish with chilli, lemon, feta and dill.

Great hot or cold. Apologies to all the Yiayias!

TIP: Great as bubble and squeak on toast too.

06. DON’T WAIT FOR THE OCCASION

I’m not waiting for a “date” to wear my favourite dresses. I’m wearing what I like, and the opinions of others are none of my business.

My birthday present to myself was a leopard-print Dolce & Gabbana dress. It’s an heirloom, and it’s in my will. I’m going to wear it whenever I like. No occasion. No rules. It’s your life!

Please be bold and brave, and give all that magic you give to others to yourself! You are fabulous company.

07. REPLACE YOUR MASCARA

Don’t forget to get a new Mitzi Mascara every 4 months or so. The look of a new mascara is evident. It’s my number 1.

P.S. Moths are attracted to the light. You are the light.
