Have you got that tired dehydrated skin feeling? Dry, dehydrated skin can have a range of different causes. One particular word at this time of year that comes to mind is ‘winter’.
One of the biggest causes to our skin looking the way it does in terms of hydration, is of course water, yep your skin gets thirsty too. Our skin however is the last organ that will absorb hydration and water, and we all know in winter it’s increasingly harder to drink water. Suddenly you look at the clock and shit, its 2 o’clock and I’ve had one cup of water and that was in my tea! This can cause many internal problems like headaches, and external problems like pimples and dehydrated skin.
Yet winter, although a big cause for many this time of the year, isn’t the only cause of dehydrated or dry skin. Dry or flaky skin is actually slightly different to dehydrated skin. “Dry” skin, is actually related to the amount of sebum your body produces. Sebum or ‘Sebaceous’ glands act as a barrier preventing evaporation of moisture from the layers of your skin. If your skin has a tendency to be dry through most seasons, chances are your body doesn’t produce much sebum.
So what now? Create a loving healthy relationship with your skin, get to know it, study it, take note on what you are eating, what time of the year it is, or time of the month ladies, and finally what you’re using on your skin, read the ingredients, I repeat, READ THE INGREDIENTS.
Harsh ingredients will strip the sebum from your skin, so yes, you may feel like you have fresh clean skin, for the moment. But in the long run it will make your skin dry.
