When You Suck At Self Care (I’m Guilty But I’m Working On It)

I don’t like holidays. I hate massages and relaxing. I always want to push myself and everyone around me forward. Not even two bouts of Glandular Fever slowed me down! I’m a giver. Helping others is my calling! But in following my calling, I usually forget to take care of myself.

“Sonya, do you pack your kids lunches every day?”

“Of course! I pride myself on them – they’re so healthy.”

“Do you pack yours?”

“No…”

I would NEVER send my girls to school without breakfast, yet I couldn’t tell you the last time I sat down and made my own! I can’t walk past someone homeless in the street without doing SOMETHING for them, but I found it really difficult to do something for myself. It was a real awakening for me and teaching myself to recharge has been a tough journey.

The way I started my self care journey was identifying what DIDN’T help me recharge.

So many people will tell you that you need something like Yoga or Pilates to help you recharge and relax. I couldn’t bloody stand Yoga OR Pilates! Realise that you don’t need to be some Yogi guru to master self care (unless you love that kind of thing!).

Self care can be as simple as a walk through nature, sitting down to eat your lunch rather than standing up, or simply taking deep breaths and be present.

Do what is kind to you. Your vibe attracts your tribe – so make sure you’re taking care of yourself as well as those around you!

Blessings Sonya x
